A five-day Pathfinder course runs at Rufforth East Airfield on the outskirts of York. The course runs daily from 08:30 until 16:00 from 10th to 14th August 2026.
If you live in a sponsored county (North, East, South or West Yorkshire or North East Lincolnshire) you will pay a £70 deposit now and a further £210 on request 8 weeks before the event. All bookings require a deposit of £70. Bursaries are applied to the final payment for which you will be provided with a Coupon Code. All other attendees of this Pathfinder course will benefit from a £100 bursary from the Under 17 Car Club Charitable Trust, reducing the overall cost of the course to £300. This is made up of a £70 deposit followed by the remainder of £230 due on request 8 weeks before the event. If you need additional financial support in order to take part please apply for a bursary here before booking. Once the Trustees confirm that a bursary is available you will be able to complete the booking process.
In one week students of the Pathfinder Initiative achieve the essential driving competence, attitudes, and understanding to become safe drivers. Uniquely, Pathfinder is for students aged between 15-17 and their guardians. You learn in a safe, secure environment, having fun together and building understanding and trust. Alongside learning and developing core driving skills, students will learn about and practice:

- Road Risk and Safety Practice
- Advanced Driving Appreciation
- Essential Car Control
- Manoeuvring & Overtaking
- Brake and Avoid
- Speed Awareness
